The RM of Grassy Creek was able to secure funding through TC Energy’s (formerly TransCanada Pipelines)  Build Strong Program, for safety equipment for the Shaunavon and District Fire Department.  $10,000 was donated through this program for 2 sets of turnout gear and other safety equipment. A huge thank you to TC Energy!

Snow Plowing

I know you don’t want to think about winter but unfortunately it will be coming around again in a few months. Please ensure that when plowing your snow that you do not push it across the grid roads leaving it across from your driveway as it causes safety issues for traffic. Please place any snow piles well back from the roads. The snow piles cause drifts which are a problem throughout the winter.

Farming Municipal Right of Ways

Please be aware when farming municipal right of way that the municipality may need to mow if weeds are an issue. The road allowance is 66 1/3’ on trails or undeveloped roads and 100-150’ on grid roads.

Weed Control

There continues to be issues with over spraying and cultivating of the ditches. The concern with this is that the grass which helps control the weeds is also being killed and noxious and invasive weeds have the opportunity to take hold and spread. Please be cautious with your spraying to assist everyone with controlling the spread of weeds.

We also ask that you are careful when cultivating in the ditch when the road is elevated, moving dirt too closely to the road damages the edge and compromises the surface.

The municipality now has a policy that there is a $1,000 fine for damage to the roads and right of ways.

Rancher John
Old ranch owner John farmed a small ranch in Saskatchewan. Employment Standards claimed he was not paying proper wages to his workers and sent an agent out to interview him.

‘I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them,’ demanded the agent.

‘Well,’ replied old John, ‘There’s my ranch hand who’s been with me for 3 years. I pay him $600 a week plus free room and board. The cook has been here for 18 months, and I pay her $500 a week plus free room and board. Then there’s the half-wit who works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here. He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night.’

‘That’s the guy I want to talk to, the half-wit,’ says the agent.

‘That would be me,’ replied old rancher John.

Thank You: We always appreciate when residents and landowners let us know of any trouble spots on the roads, when signs have been knocked down or are missing or just to discuss municipal issues!

Wishing you a safe and bountiful harvest!
