Agricultural Disaster Area

A Resolution was passed at the August 18, 2021 meeting of council declaring the municipality an Agricultural Disaster Area as below:

‘That the R.M. of Grassy Creek No.78 be declared an agricultural

disaster area due to drought, extreme heat, strong winds,

gophers and grasshoppers. That the Premier of Saskatchewan

consider these issues and declare a drought emergency and

make funding available for livestock and farming programs.’

Severe heat, wind, lack of moisture, and pests have caused crop failures in this municipality that is affecting both crop and livestock producers. Many crops are considered failures. Harvesting forage and keeping cattle in pasture and water is proving to be challenging. Conditions this drastic have not been experienced for many years.

The Council has requested that existing programs be significantly improved upon and emergency-based program funding be made available to agriculture producers in these very stressful circumstances.
